It's kind of annoying, how people think their immune-systems are powerless against the latest 'Spanish Flu' (i.e. Swine Flu, SARS, Zika, H1N1, COVID-19 (where 'Corona-Virus' became a popular name, but I understand 'the common cold' is also a "Corona-Virus") ... there was a while that we thought HIV/AIDS was transmitted through the air ...).
'These people' (the ones who cancel planned meetings, who limit the live audiences of shows that now perform for auditoriums peopled by only 'the staff,' who schedule U.S. Presidential debates with NO audience in attendance, who fool people into thinking they can only go out if they wear a hazmat-suit with portable oxygen ... which it might be "smart" for you to buy (i.e. which I might 'greedily' offer a link to the sale-of)) ...
They forget how the immune-system works. That''s understandable, and I'll talk about "why" below; but first, 'That word' (below-hyperlinked to a tree-planting search for 'an explanation to verify my knowledge') is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The word “Immune” is built on words that mean "|Free, |Not |Paying a |Share; |Opposite of (|In-) + |Performing |Services (|Municipal)" (|Exempt from a |Disease, typically because of an |Inoculation).
First, the popular conception of The Immune-System: 'we' (or at least 'I') hear about the system, and imagine our insides are some sort of 'air-combat area, with our immune-cells being fighter-drones that shoot at- and destroy the enemy-drones of viruses ... pew-pew! pew-pew-pew!'
But the fact is, the immune-system works more like Soap—immune-cells latch onto the germs (before the germs can latch onto an internal organ) and carry them out of the body.
(Reminds me of 'some of Lord Jesus Christ's famous healings,' where essentially He told His followers to go & wash themselves off, to report to their priests, and then to sin-no-more.)
Many of us are 'visual learners,' so maybe a diagram of the immune-system will show us what we're working with.
A "X-ennial" (i.e. with 'BabyBoomer'-parents, but born in the years currently "assigned to" Millennials") I usually 'take it as a given' that I can search the web for the diagram I need; so I do that, and I post what I find (listing the contents) below:

- Lymph Nodes & Lymphatic Vessels - in several places in the body
- Appendix
- Peyer's Patches
- Spleen (or is that 'the Colon' Prof. Carlin's talking about when he says "into the colon they go!'?)
- Thymus
- Tonsils & Adenoids - which seem to resemble the Lymph Nodes
- and some things the diagram doesn't mention: the Skin, Phagocytes, Natural Killer Cells, and a 'zoom-in' on the system.
