Why 'an Urge or Addiction' is called a #Jones | #Jonesing #KeepingUpWithTheJoneses #IndianaJones @TheIndyWiki #DavyJones #LeslieJones @LesDoggg @JessicaJones
'That word' (below-hyperlinked to a post about keeping your Larceny-jones at-bay) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The word “Jones (intense desire, addiction)” is from when 'Jones' was slang for "Heroin" (probably built on the Name–though there's no clear connection–which is built on words that mean “Progeny (Children, Heirs) of John”).
And "Keeping Up with the Joneses" was a comic-strip about the McGinnis family's attempt to match their lifestyle with that of their neighbors (the Jones family).
Know anything else interesting about that? Comment!
