#Tobacco Stops with YOU (doesn't even TOUCH 'Me') @StopsWithMe @OklahomaTSET takes down #BigTobacco ( @insidePMI @BATpress @RAI_news)
NOTE: The 'Tobacco'-companies tagged in the title are also trying
to find ways to keep children away from dangerous products.
I guess 'Big Tobacco' here refers not so much to "the companies
that profit from the thousands of deaths per year" as "the idea
that that's 'what they want to happen!'"
An ad in the Gazette tells us:
(maybe you can't see the small text ... I can't; but I think (as I can read it in the original paper) it reads, "Big Tobacco puts profits over people—and it's hurting Oklahoma. In our state: $2 billion is spent on tobacco-related health care costs every year - 1,800 kids become new daily smokers each year - 1 in 6 kids use e-cigarettes ...
("By implementing common-sense tobacco-policies, we can save Oklahoma from the clutches of Big Tobacco.")
The word “Tobacco” is built on “a Kind of Pipe for Smoking a Roll of Tobacco Leaves” (Columbus named 'Tobago' after the Haitian for 'Pipe').
What Does Tobacco Do Anyway?
People start using tobacco (smoking, chewing) because–along with 'making you look cool' (think of James Dean or The Marlboro Man)–it also alleviates mental ilness—the highly addictive Nicotine also reduces psychiatric, cognitive, sensory, and physical effects of schizophrenia, and also provides relief of common side effects from antipsychotic drugs.
But the risks–especially today, with lots of the natural goodness taken out in exchange for cheap, harmful substances–far outweigh the possible benefits.
I think they should do tobacco-products a lot like they do cannabis-products (in Oklahoma & a few other states)—where you have to have a Doctor's Recommendation (a.k.a. a weed-card) to buy any of the products in that category ... they might even add 'tobacco' to that category (tobacco is 'a weed,' yes?)
Or am I looking at that wrong (or 'wrongly' 🤓)? Tell
me how-wrong/right I am in the comments below 😁
