Why Is Everyone (#LotusGoldDispensary, et al.) 'Going #Pink' for #BreastCancerAwareness? @pbsOrigin #GoingPink #Pinker #Pinkest #Pinkish #Pinks #PinkingShears #PinkElephants

When did 'pink' become a 'Breast-Cancer Awareness'-color? ... 1Africa tell us the pink-for-breast-cancer meme started at the 1991 Susan G. Koman Race for a Cure (New York City's version of the PC Cancer Classic), after The New York Times declared 1991 "The Year of the Ribbons" (Earth and Moon Design links it to the Yellow Ribbon for our troops-on-tour and -the Red Ribbon for the Fight against AIDS).

But it didn't go 'international' until SELF Magazine & the cancer-surviving Senior Vice-President of Estee Lauder (after Charlotte Haley–caretaker for many who were fighting breast-cancer–refused to let them 'commercialize' her "Peach Ribbons for the Fight against Breast-Cancer") distributed "Pink Ribbons for the Fight against Breast-Cancer" to all the women who shopped at Estee Lauder's counters—as Charlotte Haley's peach-ribbon disappeared from the pop-lexicon.

They decided on pink because–aside from 'not wanting to "commercialize" Charlotte Haley's work–it was/is clear that (as Margaret Welch, director of The Color Association of America, says),
The profile on pink is playful, life-affirming. We have studies as to its calming effect, its lessening of stress ... you can't say a bad thing about it."
In short Pink is–in other words–the antithesis of Cancer!
I mean; it's the symbol of feminine fertility, the color of the inside of a 'perfectly rare' steak (not too 'well done,' but not 'undercooked'), the color of many healthy flowers ... a fountain of livelihood!

But is there anything about Pink that ties it to 'livelihood'? It's probably 'mostly people's imagination (mixed with their observations of reality), but ... let's delve ...

The word “Pink” is built on Foundations that mean “to |Pierce, |Stab, make Holes in, |Spur (a Horse) |Onward; |Perforated (like the petals of the Dianthus flower, which is often a Pale-Red Color), |Small (Half-Closed) |Eyes” (Pike, to Prick ... |Incarnation, |Carnation (|Flesh- or |Blush-color, |Crimson or |Blood-color); the |Finest |Example of; politically, to the Left-of-Center (but not 'Redly' Radical)).
The surname means "a |Bench Seat in the Garden."

Reminds me of another historical question people have about 'Pink':
