"Pike" is the meaning of a word in the base of "Pick" (mentioned in my "Pick Your Plate"-post linked through 'that word' below); but first I want to understand that word better. And I find you understand words better if you look at 'the words at their base' (then going on to look at the words at those words' bases, then the words at those words' bases, etc.-etc. ad infinitum)
The word “Pike” is built on ancient words that mean "Spear, Pick-|Axe, |Pitchfork" (|Tapering to a Point, like the Gymnastics-Position or -the Highway running through a Tollbooth or -the Snout of that kind of Fish).
Pike's Peak was named after |Zebulon Pike, an explorer who--though he never successfully climbed the Mountain himself--led the first American |Expedition that discovered- and attempted-the |Summit.
