'My' McDonald's has information on my receipt that I can take to mcdvoice.com and enter it to open a little survey that gives me a code to write on the receipt to present to them in order to get a 'Buy One Get One FREE' (BOGO) on a certain item in my next order. And that information is automatically printed on every receipt ... EVEN IF I'M USING THE DISCOUNT IN THE ORDER THAT GAVE ME THAT RECEIPT!*
And I'll often feel I don't deserve the discount ... like I 'hacked' the discount out of the system. For instance: with my latest receipt-survey–even though I went to McDVoice & filled out the survey & wrote down the code they gave me–I probably won't use that survey-code to get a discount, since (part of) the original order was already discounted.
I'm compelled to be fair ... even though my 'refusal to hack the discount' won't hurt their bottom-line even one iota, and even though nobody's keeping track—compelled to "moderation."
That word (the 'built' one below)—there might be something more to that word ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which the our lexicon stands ...

*In McDonald's' defense, I also usually order an item without the BOGO-discount; and I guess that's what McDonald's is rewarding me for.
You know something about that word-history that
I don't mention (and that probably isn't mentioned
below)? 'Fill us in on it'- or just tell me what you
think (or ask me about something in this- or another-
word that confuses you) with a comment below,
