The word “Conduct” carries traces of “With, Together + to Lead” (Direct, Command, Manage (originally Military); Behave in a Certain Way; (in Physics) to Carry, Convey, Transmit).
I remember when I first wished to be an orchestra-conductor ... watching the conductor, it seemed like he was 'playing' the orchestra (like it was one of those multi-keyboard pipe-organs).
But "the conductor doesn't make a sound" (Benjamin Zander tells us near the end of the linked video). The Conductor gets all his power by causing others to feel powerful—which brings a shine to their eyes.
