#InternetCrime is EVEN POSSIBLE? @TheJusticeDept @FBI #Crime #Criminal #Crimes #CyberCrime #CrimeAndPunishment #CriminalCourt
Watching TV today, I caught a truly-'blink and you miss it' ad to "Report Internet Crimes to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
Luckily, I was watching TV I had DVR'd ... I paused that ad, so I could find the link given below.
But then I thought, 'Crime? on the Internet? ... I thought crime was impossible in the Virtual World of the Internet!' ... and then I remembered many of the 'Crimes' that almost-define the Internet—mostly False Identity tricks (where people take information from you, use it to 'disguise themselves as you (so they can take your money or take credit for things you put on the Internet)').
That modus operandi is the reason why I would advise you not to put any of 'your personal information' (official ID- or license- or Social Security-Numbers, passcodes, banking-information) on any machine connected to the Internet—trusting the official entities to HAVE that info (which you can then verify in real life).
Sure, there are plenty of programs you can buy that'll "protect" your private information; but–just like abstinence is the surest way to prevent pregnancy–'not leaving your information lying-around' is the surest way to make sure that 'hackers can't take it!'
The word “Crime” is built on ancient words that mean “Charge, Indictment, |Accusation, Fault, |Offence” (Decide, |Sift/|Sieve, |Discriminate, |Distinguish).
