The word "Captain" is built on ancient words that mean "|Head" (|Officer who stands as head-Commander of a Company (Ranking between |Major & |Lieutenant) or -of a Navy Man-of-War—extended to mean '|Master- or |Leader of a |Vessel of any kind or -of a |Sports-|Team).

I know I've been more-influenced by 'the captains listed below' (mostly-fictional), but "the word" comes up because of a movie-trailer that 'dropped' yesterday (incidentally, "Talk Like a Pirate"-day ... ai-yarrr ...)

Captains who influenced me–who have been 'running my head'–even more than Brie Larson has (so-far, anyway)?

First of all, on STAR TREK–where 'Captain' was regarded as "owner of the starship" (ultimately responsible for its crews safety, it's state-of-repair, its actions) and regarded as 'a position lower officers or crew-members were honored when the responsibility of the title fell to them–there was Captain James Tiberius Kirk.

And next in line–though she was the fourth 'STAR TREK commanding-officer' and the worst Captain everCaptain Katherine Janeway has been more-influential than one would think—maybe even more-influential than Captain Jean Luc Picard. (I know the 'Best Captain'-debate is always between Kirk-&-Picard–as it should be–but Captain Janeway was 'more than a captain' ... maybe more-like 'one of the lower gods!'—or maybe that was just Kate Mulgrew!)

Then there's Benjamin Sisko—I forget whether he was "Captain" or just "Commander of Space Station DS9."

And Captain Jonathan Archer (first captain of The USS Enterprise) ... though I haven't seen enough of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE to think of him as 'an influence' so much as 'a myth/legend that I've caught a few glimpses of'—like Captain Christopher Pike; especially since Archer is portrayed by 'a man whom I would guess were the real live "Kwisatz Haderach"' Scott Bakula (also known for Dr. Sam Beckett, Stephen Bartowski, the head officer of an NCIS, ...)!

Then we get into the MARVEL universe—there's Captain Marvel (above), and The First Avenger CAPTAIN AMERICA; but 'the officer who's influenced me the most' is Coulson. Agent-Coulson, Captain-, Commander- ... I might suggest (especially with his mentor-ship of 'Captain Skye' (Daisy Johnson)) the title of Father, Counselor, Elder, Deacon or Bishop!
