I was inspired to list the soccer-league's teams when writing the post that's linked through 'the main word' below. Here, I list a few 'root-words' that tie that word into our lexicon....
The word “Soccer” is built on university slang from an abbreviation for Association (from 'Football Association' ... I guess that--as they split from |Rugby Football ("Rugger")--they didn't want their paperwork to say that they were part of the 'Football @$$' ... see also the schoolboy slang 'leccer' from Lecture).
I think these are the Teams, but #MLS calls them "Clubs" (as of January 26, 2021):
- Atlanta United FC
- Austin FC
- Charlotte FC
- Chicago Fire FC
- FC Cincinnati
- Colorado Rapids
- Columbus Crew SC
- FC Dallas
- D.C. United
- Houston Dynamo FC
- LAFC
- LA Galaxy
- Inter Miami CF
- Minnesota United FC
- Montreal Impact
- Nashville SC
- New England Revolution
- New York City FC
- New York Red Bulls
- Orlando City SC
- Philadelphia Union
- Portland Timbers
- Real Salt Lake
- Sacramento
- St. Louis City SC
- San Jose Earthquakes
- Seattle Sounders FC
- Sporting Kansas City
- Toronto FC
- Vancouver Whitecaps FC
