'That word' (below-hyperlinked to an All Health Post post on The Basics of Throat Anatomy) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The word “Throat” is built on Bedrock beneath ancient words that mean “Larynx (Throat-|Boll known as the Adam's Apple)” (related to the Italian for "|Strangle," college-slang for "Competitive Student" (probably short for "Cutthroat")).
That's 'gorlo' in Russian.
... These parts are listed and described at the above 'Throat'-link, but I think examining the root-words behind the parts' names will help in remembering them:
- Adenoids
- Tonsils
- Uvula
- Epiglottis
- Pharynx (Throat)
- Larynx (Voice Box)
- Trachea (Wind Pipe)
- Vocal cords (Glottis)
The pictures above (which I think you can enlarge by clicking on them) also list parts connected to the Throat-anatomy ... you might call it 'airway anatomy':
- Nasal- and Oral Cavity
- Hard Palate
- Soft-Palate (Palatal Velum)
- Tongue
- Regions of the Pharynx
- Esophagus (Oesophagus) - which of course is right behind the Trachea (Windpipe) ... I don't know why, but I always thought the Esophagus & the Trachea were 'side-by-side' until my late 20's ... even though I was 14 when I had a trache-tube, and (duh) the Adam's Apple is right there ... I guess I was faked-out by the Uvula, which looks like it's there to 'guide food to the one hole & -air to the other' or something—I mean, what else could it be there-for? Right?? ... Well, it's there for this.
- Alveolar Ridge (upper Gums)
- Teeth
- Lower Jaw
- Hyoid
- Thyroid Cartilage
- Internal- and External Nares
I realize a lot of those may be 'synonyms for the previous parts' if not
'parts of the previous parts,' but you can help me sort that out in the comments
below.
