@Cheddar explains #Boring Episodes of Popular TV-Series ... well, #BottleEpisodes @TVTropes #Boredom #Bore
That word (the first one linked below)—I felt like there might be something more to that word ... something crucial that firms a foundation ...
The word “Boredom” is built on “Hole (if not 'to Bear') + Statute, Judgement (Doom)” (Ennui, Annoyance, Listless Disgust, Tiresome, Dull).
Cheddar is quick to say that (even though their video has 'Boring'- & NOT 'Bottle Episode'-in the title) Bottle Episodes are not necessarily boring ... they mention a 'Bottle Episode' of Seinfeld which many regard as 'one of the best!'
'Bottle Episodes' are episodes that take place entirely in one setting-location (usually to save the producers money ... though they claim it has something to do with the series' "pacing"—moments of quiet to accentuate the operatic 'explosions').
Cheddar reports that the term comes from ... both/either the 60s' STAR TREK crew used it to refer to episodes that took place entirely on-board the Enterprise, and/or Leslie Stevens (producer of THE OUTER LIMITS) coined the term because producing such an episode–she said–is like "pulling an episode out of a bottle" (whatever that means).
This reminds me of (something they might even have featured on STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION) the "Ship in a Bottle." Actually, the STAR TREK cast actually used the term "Ship-in-a-Bottle Episode" (largely because there's no additional set-design or -construction beyond minor modifications to the pre-existing set (often done by the actors themselves during- or adjacent to-the filming).
