What is #Facebook FOR, Anyway? @Facebook @FacebookAppDev @FacebookAppss @Facebook_UK @FacebookAppsJP #Face

The name comes from 'a book put out by Harvard University (and lots of other schools, I imagine) with labeled pictures of all the students so that one could put names to the faces one sees on campus.'

(And that's pretty-much what Zuckerberg & co. started it-as: back when The Internet was 'just catching-on,' they figured it would be a good idea to have 'an online version' of The Facebook.)

That idea first spread to other schools (I remember that I had to be a student in order to have a profile on Facebook), then to other community-groups ...

Now I regularly get 'friend-requests' from profiles that don't even have a School (Past- & Current-), Employment (Past- & Current-), Hometown, Current Residence!

If 'Facebook' still exists "so people know your name when they see you in real life," but there isn't a place where they will see you in real life; why does Facebook even allow you to have a profile there?

The name "Facebook" is obviously the compound of the words "Book" & "Face."
The word “Face” carries the scent of “Appearance, Form, Figure, Visage, Countenance (Form Imposed on something)” (to Make, Set, Put).

The 'disillusioned youth' in me of-course "knows" that Facebook allows such 'accounts' because "it's all profit from the advertising."
