#420, #314, #504 (April 20, Pi Day, & May the Fourth (Be With You)) ... Dates that Become #Memes: Is There a Word for That? #Mimetic #Memes

People today think a 'meme' is "a picture overlaid with text that's posted & re-posted & re-re-ad inf. on a social network (usually Facebook or Twitter or Instagram or Pinterest)."

While 'picture-&-text on a social-network' is probably the most common way of transmitting a meme; the word was coined by Richard Dawkins, who defined it as "a unit of cultural transmission, or a unit of imitation."

'Dates that become memes' is a good illustration of this 'memisis,' as the dates become 'memes' due to their imitation of other popular tidbits: 'May the Fourth (Be With You)' imitates the popular farewell-mantra from the STAR WARS-series "May The Force be with You"; March Fourteenth is numerically the first three digits of the number for Π; and April Twentieth carries the numbers ...

The word “Meme” carries the scent of “to |Imitate” (|Mime).
