Maybe ... not 'a better performer of the character,' so much as 'a better "Sherlock Holmes" than the one Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote or -the one that Doyle, Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat & Steve Thompson wrote for the BBC'—I deduce that's the kind of Sherlock we'd have today, in a world where "newspapers" have been replaced by "late-night comedians" in the station of 'pillars of trusted journalism' 😄😃😄😂😃😂😁

'That word' (below-hyperlinked to my search for any comparison between the two Sherlocks) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...

The word “Deduce” (Draw a Conclusion from Information that's Already Known) is built on ancient words that mean "to Lead |Down" (|Derive, Infer |Logically).

The search didn't lead to many comparisons with 'Pete Holmes'; but 'Benedict Cumberbatch' gets compared to Robert Downey Jr., Jonny Lee Miller & Jeremy Brett (a 'Sherlock Holmes' I've never heard-of), and there's even a contest between Cumberbatch's Sherlock & his Dr. Strange!
