'That word' (below-hyperlinked to American Heritage Dictionary's online list of PIE words) is built on an even-deeper source ... something crucial that firms the foundation upon which our lexicon stands ...
The prefix “Indo-” is built on words that mean “India.” 
The word “European” is built on words so deep in the Bedrock that it's not certain which words they are—words that mean “Wide (Eurys-) + Face, Eye (See)”? Phoenician princess Europa (of Greek Mythology)? "where the Sun goes Down-, Sets in the West in the Evening (as opposed to The Orient)"?
