You can see that–though ends up meaning 'sticking firmly to The Path you choose'–begins with cutting-off all the pathways that might steer you off The Path.
I think of (and Napoleon Hill also mentions) the warriors who–when they reach a new territory by boat–burn the boats behind them—'cutting off' any possibility of retreat ... they'll either conquer the new territory or will die in the attempt!
Or maybe I'm looking at it wrong—that's one reason
