The word “Comic” carries the scent of “of- or pertaining to-Comedy.”
But of course 'that meaning' might not apply so quickly to 'today's use of the word "comic book"'—a phrase that brings to mind "Action/Adventure" before I think of 'something funny' (and I know that 'comedy' covers more than just 'funny things,' but ... does it?)
Reading a little more, I find out that 'Comic Books' began in the 1880 with books full of 'nothing but humorously captioned illustrations.' ...
I suppose DC & MARVEL etc. came at it with the idea 'Hey! We can make books like this that tell stories through the pictures!' and stuck with the word 'comics' (heck, DC stands for 'Detective Comics'!)
